Many shops and services are now open longer hours for the holiday season!

Friday, December 14th, 2012

As the holidays quickly approach, many businesses have taken the habit of expanding their oporating hours.  This is great for those working long hours and shift work when making it to a store could otherwise be difficult.  It is also great for everyone else, as we can choose to shop at different hours when it might be less chaotic and with shorter lines.

All Superstores in the city are now open 24 hours usually until after new years.  Most Walmart Supercentres are also now open 24 hours.

North Central Outdoor Skating Rinks

Friday, December 14th, 2012

Many community outdoor rinks are starting to open for the season for both shinny/hocky and pleasure skating!

Sandarac Rink (99 Sandstone Drive) is open until 10 (wiht lights from 5-10) every night except when flooding is taking place- then it closes at 9pm.   There is a boarded rink and pleasure rink.

Hidden Valley (Hidden Hut- Hidden Valley Drive)  Boarded and lit rink.  Skating. daily unless Hidden  Valley outdoor hocky league is playing a game (usually every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning).

Harvest Hills Pleasure Rink (South end of Harvest Hills Lake at the west end of Harvest Lake Dr) There are no lights here.

Panorama Hills Pleasure Rink (Panamount Sq off Panamoutn BV- just across from St Jerome School). The City has agreed to help get a pleasure rink up and running this winter after installing winter water surface for flooding the ice. With the help of volunteers from Coventry and area this will be the Northern Hills second outdoor rink!

The next steps is to consider a site for winter water installation in Coventry Hills!   The costs are high but response from residents show there is need and desire. If you would like to help look at and evaluate potential sites for this rink, please contact community@northernhills.ab.ca

At this time there are no outdoor skating rinks or pleasure rinks in Evanston, Kincora, Sherwood, or Sage Hill.
